Nkuli has been reading and writing since the 80’s. She studied Theatre and Performance at UCT then went on to star in the landmark SABC 1 multi award winning City Ses'la, for which she won a SAFTA Award.
She combined her love for the written word and performance by becoming a TV writer. She has written for the Emmy Nominated, South African Writers Guild Muse Award winning and multi SAFTA award winning ZANews.
And has written and directed on the SAFTA award nominated comedies - City Ses’la, Ses Top’la, Gauteng Maboneng as well as My Perfect Family, Kota Life Crisis and Single Gals, Society and Nomzamo. She is also a published author.
Nkuli Sibeko has produced two feature length projects, a documentary and a Romantic Comedy. The documentary “Freedom Mixtape (1994 – 2014)”, looks at South Africa’s last 20 years of Democracy as seen through the eyes of its Musical Artists – official selection at Durban International Film Festival. “Winsome” is a romantic comedy starring some of South Africa’s biggest names on the screen. The film has just returned from competition at Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Born and raised in Cape Town she now lives in Gauteng. She is one half of Jack&Jill Productions, a boutique production company which specialises in bringing independent cinematic productions to the small and the big screen alike. In July 2016 she directed her latest project called Sins of our Fathers – a documentary that commemorates the 1976 student uprisings in comparison to the 2015/6 Fees Must Fall/Rhodes Must fall movements.
